And the less clutter you have with different Legend abilities on smaller mobile screens the better, so this roster feels appropriate for what Apex Mobile is right now. In any case, the collection of the 10 Legends in mobile are more than enough to pick from, especially since in this version of Apex the abilities don’t seem to matter as much as basic gunplay and outshooting your enemies.

There haven’t been any platform-specific Legends before, and while I understand wanting to entice established Apex players to try out Mobile, it feels a bit odd and unfair to the community that’s made this game as successful as it is. Releasing Fade as a mobile-only Legend is an interesting decision since I could see his movement abilities being used in creative ways on console and PC.

This ability has a 10-second cool down before it’s activated after a slide again.įade’s suit phases him into the void and recalls him to his last location, up to 60 meters.įade throws an activator core from his suit and the explosion deals minor damage and sends everyone in its radius into the void, rendering anyone affected unable to damage or be damaged. Fade's Bona FidesĪfter sliding, Fade gets a slight speed boost. So Fade’s entire kit can really serve to keep him surviving as long as possible on his own. While his ultimate throws nearby enemies into a void where they can’t take or receive damage, if you’re in trouble you can also step into the ult’s radius to enter the void and become invulnerable yourself. He makes a great solo-player Legend because his kit is built to really benefit his own survivability and maneuverability. The 10th is a first: a platform exclusive named Fade, who is pretty reminiscent of Ovewatch’s Tracer in that he comes with a recall ability that blips him back to where he was a few seconds ago. Having the original group available feels fine, especially since these Legends are still highly viable in the original game – and they’re even more so here without the additional Legends who were dropped in the PC/console version after launch. While your controller is perfectly adequate for in-game combat and navigation, maybe in the future it'll be usable in menus as well.Apex Mobile isn’t cross-platform compatible with its sibling but it’s not a big departure, either: it uses the same basic formula of playing in teams of three, and of the 10 Legends available at launch, nine are the originals from Apex Legends’ launch: Bangalore, Bloodhound, Caustic, Gibraltar, Lifeline, Mirage, Octane, Pathfinder, Wraith. Further support?Īpex Legends Mobile is still fairly recent as far as big mobile games go, so it's possible that developer Respawn Entertainment will work to provide increased controller support in the future. Once you're actually in the game, your controller will be usable. If everything is working correctly, it should be detected and named.įrom there, you're good to go! Bear in mind what we said above - you'll need to use touch controls to start the game and navigate menus.

Any controller that can be paired to an iOS device will work, so if you want to use an Xbox Series X|S controller or PS5 DualSense controller, you're good to go. If you want to use a controller with your iPad and iPhone while playing Apex Legends Mobile, it's a fairly simple process.

Anyone who takes playing mobile games fairly seriously - or also plays games across multiple platforms - likely already owns some of the best controllers, so try them out! How to use a controller with Apex Legends Mobile on iOS So, if you're playing Apex Legends Mobile through one of the great gaming iPhones or iPads, you might want to hook up a controller instead of relying on the touch controls. The menus of the game however, aren't compatible with controllers right now, so you'll still have to use the touch controls for that part of the game. In our experience, controllers with Bluetooth support work well in-game, especially if you have trouble aiming. Our gaming editor Carli Velocci didn't have too many issues with her Xbox controller when she reviewed the game on iOS, so don't be discouraged by the lack of guaranteed support. As a result, the controller you use may have issues with specific functions, depending on the exact model.

You can pair a Bluetooth controller and use it to play the game, but Apex Legends Mobile was optimized around touch controls. Apex Legends Mobile doesn't explicitly support controllers.
